Heritage Audio OST-8 ADAT Review

For everyone who has always wanted to get the most out of their audio interface, you can now truly maximize its potential with the OST-8 ADAT. After listening to feedback from many users, Heritage Audio decided to answer your requests. Many people rely on the ADAT format, and almost every professional audio interface includes an ADAT option.

That’s why adding an ADAT output was the next logical step in our designs. With the OST-8 ADAT, we’re introducing an 8-slot 500 series enclosure with its own built-in premium converter, making it easier than ever to capture, process, and digitize signals at the highest possible quality.

Heritage Audio OST-8 ADAT Key Features

The OST-8 adat 500 series chassis is built to rack any and all 500-series modules and units, including ‘double wide’ modules and even the most demanding class-A and vacuum tube designs, connecting them seamlessly to your current audio interface.

It features Heritage Audio’s On Slot Technology, delivering maximum protection, filtering, and isolation to every channel. While most 500-series enclosures on the market use a basic power supply that simply feeds each channel in parallel, every channel of the OST-8 adat enclosure has its own power supply, each one individually regulated and isolated from the others.

This ensures that every 500-series module installed will perform at its peak potential, and no ‘power hungry’ or even faulty module will compromise the performance of another. In addition to reducing interference, many 500-series devices actually exhibit lower self-noise and improved performance when racked in the OST-8 adat enclosure, especially mic preamps.

Once again, Heritage Audio has relied on its proven On Slot Technology to ensure the cleanest and most protected environment for your valuable 500 series modules. Not only does it provide unmatched filtering and isolation for every slot, but you can also be sure you’re getting the best possible performance, as each module is individually regulated, giving them their own power supply and guaranteeing they get all the power they need. Each slot even has two indicator lights confirming that the correct voltages (+16V & -16V) are being supplied.

The OST-8 adat features a high-quality, premium 24Bit/192kHz ADC that can operate as a MASTER unit or as a SLAVE to another unit, with a BNC connector for WordClock sync to ensure stable conversion. Right out of the box, you have a top-of-the-line 8-channel converter ready to use, with the option to gradually add your choice of 500 series modules to build your own unique recording or mixing rig.

One of the coolest features is the ability to individually select, for each channel, which input is routed to the ADC. This means you can choose between the direct input signal, the signal after passing through the 500 modules, or an ADC EXTERNAL IN signal. That last option is especially exciting, as it gives you even more ways to process your signal before it’s converted.

This also means you can use the OST-8 ADAT as a stand-alone converter and gradually add 500 modules whenever you like to build your ideal setup. So, for those times when all you need is a top-tier analog-to-digital converter, you’re already covered.

All inputs and outputs are provided on gold-plated XLRs, and for convenience, the LINE inputs and outputs are also available on DB25 connectors. The 8 External Inputs for the converter are available on a DB25 connector as well.

There’s also a Link button on the back—a must-have feature—which lets you internally connect one module’s output to the next module’s input, so you don’t need to use patch cables.

As with all Heritage Audio products, the 500 Series OST-8 ADAT enclosures are built using the most advanced manufacturing and design techniques, never compromising on audio quality or cutting corners.
