The Type 07 MK2 offers several enhancements, including the onboard Lineariser—a phase linearization tool that noticeably improves spatial reproduction. Also included are port plugs that allow the speaker to switch from a bass reflex design to a sealed infinite baffle. On the rear panel, you’ll find a Closed or Ported selection knob, a Low-Frequency Extension control, and a Desktop Filter control, making it easy to dial in your perfect sound.
This two-way design pairs a 7″ honeycomb composite woofer with a HEDD Air Motion Transformer (HEDD AMT) tweeter, delivering an accurate frequency response from 38 Hz to 40 kHz and a maximum SPL of 116 dB (with two speakers at 1m).
The rugged unibody casing features a modern lacquer finish for added durability and a premium look. The enclosure ensures the cabinet remains stable and delivers effortless audio, even at full power. HEDD Type 07 MK2 Sound
Bass
We’ve been very impressed by the quality of the bass. Set up at home at our preferred listening volume, the bass is neither lacking in amount nor in quality. Using the ported mode brings out even more presence in the bass, but depending on the room and placement, it can actually become a bit too strong. The closed mode, however, delivers exactly the kind of bass we prefer. You can still feel the vibration, but there’s none of that annoying boom.
In closed mode, the bass texture is excellent and truly shines with classical pieces that feature orchestral instruments. The punch for pop music is just as satisfying. It manages to create impact through speed alone, without artificially boosting the bass presence.
There’s almost no physical rumble, yet the low end fills the room with a warm, thick atmosphere. However, the low-end extension doesn’t come close to what the spec sheet claims.
Midrange
The midrange is extremely revealing, offering a life-like presentation of instruments and voices. Many headphones fail to recreate this level of realism, and it’s becoming clear why pro-audio often revolves around near-field monitors. The mids are present without causing fatigue. The Type 07 MK2 reveals multiple layers in the mix, which will certainly help prevent mistakes during mixing.
This kind of transparency is rare in IEMs, making it almost a new experience for us. We’re curious how many studio monitors can truly match the midrange quality we have here. Furthermore, voices usually aren’t this clear, and we often struggle to understand dialogue in films. We don’t have this problem with the Type 07.
High Frequencies
The high frequencies are truly a standout feature for HEDD. Klaus Heinz, the founder of ADAM Audio, played a major role in popularizing the air motion transformer (AMT) as a tweeter. With HEDD, the AMT benefits from over 20 years of experience, knowledge, and refinement. While we haven’t listened to any of his earlier ADAM monitors ourselves, many people say the HEDD versions sound the most natural of all.
Although we can’t personally confirm this claim, we can definitely say that the AMT delivers a sound that’s as clear as anything we’ve heard. The treble isn’t forward or harsh; instead, it feels relaxed and laid-back, smoothly capturing the harmonics of violins and cymbals. Over the years, we’ve heard plenty of high-end speakers that sound much sharper in the top end.
You might expect a tweeter that’s rated to extend up to 40 or even 50 kHz to have more presence or brightness, but that isn’t the case here. Vocals remain up front, with no exaggerated s-sounds or excessive definition in the highs. Still, the AMT likely plays a big part in creating such a wide and immersive soundstage.
